As an evidence based hypnotherapist I am able to explain to you the researched supportive evidence behind hypnosis and hypnotherapy, the nature of the symptoms or condition that you have, and help you to understand the causative psychological mechanisms that have led to the problem being maintained. By helping you understand the science and the theoretical basis behind the presenting issues and the therapy that I propose, together we are able to agree a treatment plan based on evidence to support its efficacy. I do not support in any way, the training that many hypnotherapists have whereby they are given a standardised script and treatment protocol for every client.
The first appointment is an extended one to accommodate all of this and I expect you to be committed to the process and to undertake to follow the 'homework' that I set between each session. These are in the form of daily tasks that help you to recognise moods and negative mind states, listening to recorded audios and practising self-hypnosis. For hypnotherapy to be effective and long lasting you will learn the skills of self-hypnosis to practice daily, and this will be of benefit to you in all areas of your life. Self-hypnosis teaches you how to prevent creating problems for yourself, to stop thinking the wrong kinds of things.
Unlike many hypnotherapists, I do not profess to be able to 'cure all' or offer guarantees. Nor do I offer any 'quick fix' solutions or offer past life regression, which has no acceptable evidence to support it. When necessary I integrate hypnosis treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy
